Touring around Napier

This morning we head out for breakfast.  Heading to the main part of Napier I now understand all the talk about Art Deco.  This is the Main Street in Napier called Tennyson Street.  So many eateries and interesting shops.

Everything in town is based on Art Deco.  The earthquake that destroyed the town in 1931 was devastating however the town was rebuilt in two years and as a result everything is of that period of time (including hats of which I had fun trying on)

This gentleman works as a volunteer whenever the cruise ships come in.  There was one in today so he was out greeting people.  The period cars are plentiful and you can even go touring in one.

The sea is very rough here.  You cannot go in the water.  You’d be sucked out in no time.

Learning about this devastating quake was very interesting.  Listening to people tell their stories that were actually there.

We went in to an ice cream store that was called Lick It.  Quite the collection of ice cream scoops.

Beautiful building.

Lovely sunset as we head out for dinner.

We go to the Thirsty Whale for dinner.

Lovely bar.

I met up with my friend Nic’ee who lives in Napier with her husband Wayne.  Last time we saw each other was five years ago in India.  Great time.
