After watching a short film about the rebuilding of the city we head off from the Art Decor Trust.
The town was rebuilt within 3 years and since it was the depression there were plenty of people available to do the work. First the earthquake knocked everything down and then fire swept through.
When they rebuilt they out all wires underground so nothing is showing. Most buildings are only one or two stories high.
When you look closely at the buildings you see the details. Most had stained glass in some of the windows.
Such a pretty town. Everyone takes great pride in the history of Napier.
We decide to go to the National Aquarium. Here we can see the Kiwi bird which is nearly impossible to see as it is nocturnal.
We arrive just as they are feeding the Sting Ray. It’s huge.
There is also a large shark that they are keeping at a distance while feeding the others.
Time to relax. I walk into town and have a cold beer! 👍
