This is our ride. So far, so good.
Beautiful lush countryside along the way. We decide to go for lunch in Whangarei which is about half way to Paihia. Had a lovely lunch at a cafe called Salt. All was good until we tried to get back on our journey and the GPS somehow took us on another highway. It would tell us to turn around but then go down a road that was through the country. We went forever without seeing a sign or another person. Felt like we had entered the Twilight zone. Could not figure how to get out. Finally we see this fellow on his property and he sends us back the way we’d come with some rather vague directions. Long story short we do get to Paihia but due to road repairs from the flooding and getting lost it takes us 6 hours rather than 3!
It’s simple accommodation but we can easily walk to everything.
We go for pizza and a cold glass of wine down on the waterfront. It’s beautiful here. Wish we were staying a week rather than three nights.
The next day we hop the ferry to Russell which is a lovely town a short ferry ride away.
Some beautiful houses.
This is one of the buildings at the Pompallier Mission & Printery where we stop for coffee.
We stop and have a dirty Chai latte. So good.
