Off to Kappelen

It’s Friday and we’re on the road again.  Another couple (Gerry and Maria from Melbourne) are staying in the same place as us and Gerry offers us a lift to the train station.  Such a nice couple.  Saves us having to haul our suitcases on the bus.
We arrive too early for our train so we have breakfast at a small cafe across from the station.  It’s finally time to go and we first go to Interlaken where we change trains to Bern and then another to Lyss which is where Tanya is picking us up.  She arrives shortly after we do and off we go to Kappelen.

This is the house.  Huge by Swiss standards.  It’s really a duplex as Tanya’s family has the half on the left and another family occupies the right side.
We meet the rest of the family (they have three children) and then a special dinner of Raclette is prepared.  This is a very traditional dish mainly consisting of cheese and potatoes.  Sometimes you can add pickle and different seasonings.  The cheese is melted at the table individually.

Gaetano is preparing the potatoes.

Tanya is getting ready to put everything on the table.

The cheese!  Thick slices of different varieties.  Hello cholesterol!!

The energy is high as their eldest son has just returned from a week in Berlin and the whole family is trying to get organized to leave at 4 am by car to Croatia for their vacation.

Saturday morning and the family has left.  We’re on our own!  There are four ponies .... (only had pictures of three in case you wondered)

The cat Missie

The dog Spike

And a few bunnies...two female, four babies...and two male (in another pen for obvious reasons)

At least I should be able to work off any extra pounds that I have accumulated...I hope.

Cuddles all around....first day down and I think we remembered all the chores!
