While trying to operate the ticket machine (which is very challenging to say the least) this young man asks if we need assistance. He meant well however we end up spending €30 on the wrong pass and after he takes us to the train information place to get a refund we learn (a) they do not give refunds and (b) the S4 that we need to catch is not running this weekend due to construction on the line in preparation for Oktoberfest next weekend.
We have to take a train to Passing and then catch the S3! Are you kidding me?
We find the train. It reminds me of the trains I took in India! It’s so old. It’s packed and off we go. When getting off in Passing Mary does a face plant on the platform as the step getting off the train is below the level of the platform. Definitely not up to North American standards.
Luckily she is not hurt and we continue our search for the S3 and find it. We ride it to Puchheim where we get off and try to figure where to go next. Now remember....it’s 10:00 by this time and we have been hauling our luggage around for a few hours.
We’ve arrived!
The S3 leaves...and we find a bus. There is nothing open. It’s like a ghost town. Luckily the driver knows the street we’re looking for and drops us at the corner. We finally find the Air B&B....not easy as there are no lights on and we have to walk down a lane and the buildings are marked 85 a,b,c and all we know is 85. I knock on the door of the first apartment and this young guy answers....as I explain that I must be lost he says ‘no, this is it’. Really? No lights? Oh well. We are here....and he brings us wine! All is forgiven..
