Great day....hop on, hop off!

What a full day.  Started with breakfast at the hotel and then purchased my hop on, hop off pass so that I can get around the city and see where everything is.  I then found the post office right around the corner from the hotel!  What luck...made arrangements to mail my new boots to Elisabeth in Vence as they won't fit in my suitcase and they are very strict that they will only transport one piece of luggage while we are walking the El Camino.  48€!  Yikes.  Makes the boots that more priceless.  Oh well.
I then catch the hop on, hop off bus and get off in the district of Belim.  I go through the navigational museum which is interesting.  There is such history from 1400-1500 in Portugal when they were exploring the waterways and finding the route to India.

Also it seems that the Ambassador was in town and there was a great show of mounted guards escorting his car.
After that I had some great lunch
and then decided to take the old tram #28.
It's a must do.  Well just getting on the thing is a big deal.  They are crammed with people.
Struggling up the hills.  Was great fun until a truck broke down blocking the way for the trams.  Of course they can't just go around.  The driver thought it could be an hour or more so I opt to walk.  Finally find my way back to the centre and have a cold beer!  Yeah!  I then catch the hop on, hop off back to the hotel.  Discover the most amazing avenue fashioned after the Champs Elysees in Paris.
I have to go back and check it out tomorrow.
After returning to the hotel I decide to walk down the street to a restaurant I had seen earlier.  It specializes in Portugese food.  How appropriate.  Called the Restaurante Rolo it was excellent.  Large portions so I just had the appetizer which featured six different dishes.
Some red wine, a couple of desserts and a sample of their cherry liqueur.  It was perfect.  Then a lovely walk back in the warm breeze.  I'm ready for tomorrow.  Checking out the more modern portion of Lisbon.
