Exploring Margaret River area

Another day to explore the region south of Busselton.

There are actually four separate caves you can explore in the region but in different locations.  We decide to explore one cave and the was all I wanted to do.  It used to be called Yallinup

It was quite difficult climbing down into the cave especially when you’re tall. Hit my head at least three times.  Should have worn a helmet.

There were over 200 stairs leading down to the deepest part of the cave and of course that meant 200 stairs to climb back out.  It was cool and very humid.

The cave was discovered by Edward Dawson in 1899.  He acted as a guide to the cave from December 1900 to November 1937 when he finally retired.  Back in the early 1900’s men wore suits and women were in full hoop skirts clambering down into the cave.  They loved it and came in droves and they only used ropes and candles for light!

The weather is changing...becoming windy and then it rains.  We head off to find a place to eat dinner.  We thought that Margaret River would be a large town when actually it’s very small.  Sort of a one road town but the region of Margaret River is quite large.  We stopped there at the Settlers Pub for dinner and unfortunately Marlene left her camera behind and no one turned it in!  Not a great way to finish the day.
