We stop along the way to see a komatic which is used to haul wood in the winter. A type of sleigh.
So much wood. People use it in their wood burning stoves. They buy a permit which entitles them to 7 cords of wood which they cut up and stack on the side of the road. When they need it they load up their truck or komatic and take it home.
We stop to see the thrombolites however the weather has changed and it’s now gale force winds and raining! There are only two places in the world where there are thrombolites and Marlene and I have been to both. The other place is Australia.
Cold and getting wet!
Our tour director Paul…a little cold and wet.
We stop for lunch and this sign sums up Newfoundland!
We go to the L’Anse aux Meadows which is a Unesco World Heritage site. It is the first cultural discovery in the world to receive recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the Norse settlement that was discovered. The Norse or Vikings travelled here in 1000 AD.
The rain has stopped and the sun is out! It’s beautiful.
These are markers where indigenous people were discovered.
These small white flowers are the baked apple or cloud berry plant.
A replication of a sod building built by the Norse.
This is Ed who is from our tour taking a turn at being a Norseman.
We go visit a lighthouse. Iceberg alley which lies off the coast from St. Anthony.
It’s beautiful looking up the coast just outside of St. Anthony.
After dinner back at our motel we are entertained with some music. Great day!
