Time to unwind

Now that the tour is finished we watch as everyone in our group departs for home.  We relax with our morning coffee and discuss what we are going to do over the next couple of days.  We bid Myriam good bye.

Beautiful gardens of a very nice resort.
Notice the orange trees.
View from above the port
Down at La Marinella...just exploring.
Sue at the restaurant.  Fresh squeezed orange juice....yum!
And then back to the pool.
And the obligatory beer.
Narrow lane ways
At the beach for the day.  Wee bit of heaven!

And then we depart for Naples for our flight to London, then home.
Last gelato before we leave.
View of English countryside from the plane.
The small plane we take home.  And we're back!

Off to Amalfi

Last day to get up early for a tour.  This is actually a late start of 9:00 am.  The bus picks us up and we head out along the Amalfi coast.  Beautiful views.

First stop to admire the view.

Fellow selling lemon sorbet.  It's like a refreshing slushy.

These little cars are quite popular and you can see why.  They fit in small spaces however it must be tricky for a large person to get in to it.

Arriving at Positano.

Lunch in Amalfi.  Great seafood.

Our lunch of fried seafood.  Benni!

The beach in Amalfi.

Church in Amalfi.

Lots of shops and narrow roadways.

Heading back along the coast.

Typical traffic jam.  Buses, cars, and Vespas!  Mamma Mia!

Capri

Today it's another early day.  How we long for a sleep in and time to linger over our morning coffee!  We must make the most of it so off we go for a day on Capri.  We get picked up by bus and taken to the port to catch the fast ferry to Capri.

They have to use a smaller bus to go to the port in order to negotiate the narrow roads and hairpin turns.

This fast ferry is quite fast and smooth.  It only takes 20 minutes to reach Capri.

Arriving at Capri.

We go on a chairlift from Anna Capri (the upper part of the island).  This is 13 minutes of quiet bliss.  Beautiful views and only the sounds of birds and smell of jasmine to keep you company.

View from the chair.

View from the very top.

Then back down to the lower part of Capri island.  The narrow twisting streets are really something to negotiate and the drivers are very used to it.  It's still heart stopping at times.  This is a photo of the firehall.  Tiny trucks as that's all that can fit.

After returning from our day on Capri we head off for a welcome dinner at Hotel Christina which is our hotel's sister hotel.

Magnificent appetizers.  This could be dinner but there are a lot more courses to come.

Some of our group....most are from the United States.

And a beautiful sunset.  Our last tour is tomorrow and we are off to the Amalfi Coast.

Sorrento...final destination

We leave Pompeii and drive to Sorrento.

Nice small town overlooking the Bay of Naples.  Busier than I thought it would be.  So many tourists and Vespas!  Mama Mia!  Crossing the street can be life and death!

Mount Vesuvius in the background.

The main square.

Great art.  Represents the taking down of the Berlin Wall.

The old part of town.  Endless shops.

And at the end of the day there's the pool back at our hotel.  Great hotel...great location.

Leaving Rome, heading south

This morning we leave Rome and head south to Sorrento.  On our way we stop in Pompeii.

This man is working on creating a cameo which is an important trade in this area.  Very detailed work.

As we enter Pompeii we come across a coliseum.  Pompeii is quite large.  We only see a portion.  It would take two full days to view the while city.

Amazing that after 2000 years the colours of paintings on the walls are still vibrant.

This was the house of someone quite wealthy and important.

Even the mosaic tile floors are intact.

The town was buried in more than 20 meters of volcanic ash.  That is why things were so well preserved.  People died from the heat and toxic fumes.

So many articles still being discovered.

We continue our journey to Sorrento.  A much smaller town than Rome but still very busy.
