The Grampians

We have signed up for a three day tour with Groovy Grape which as the name infers caters to younger people.  Even though we’re young at heart it wasn’t our intention to hang out with younger people.  Surprisingly we managed to keep up and we all enjoyed each other’s company but after three days we were exhausted.

Our main means of transport.

Our driver, Larinda, was great.  She could really whip that bus around and the trailer (containing our suitcases) was still connected by the end of the trip.

We started  in Adelaide where we were picked up at our hotel.  We then picked up the others to have a total of 15 including the driver.   We then crossed the border in to the state of Victoria.

Pink Salt Lake

Cockatoo

Mackenzie Falls...you can hike down to the base of the falls.  There is a very inviting pool at the base where several people have ignored the ‘no swimming’ sign and been caught in the current to an early death!

Views are amazing.  Grampian National Park is huge.  167,000 square hectares.  Mount William is the highest peak at just 1100 metres.

We stop at the Awonga Cottages for the night.  This is in a small town called Hallsgap in the Grampian National Park.  Lovely accommodation.

They do controlled burns in the park.  This was smoke from one of them.  It was a relief to learn it was a controlled burn and not a wild fire.

Beautiful sunrise.

Lots of kangaroos and Koala in this area.

Lots of wildlife in the wetlands

Emu who kept trying to steal our lunch.

Echidna wondered across my path.
Lava Tongue Boardwalk in a dormant volcano.

I know there are larger reptiles in the bush but it’s mid day and quite hot so they would be curled up in the shade (thank heaven)

The Koala are so cute.

They may be cute but those claws could do some damage!

After leaving the Grampians  we head to the Great Ocean Road.
