Heading in to the park.
Foundations have been excavated. The king and queen lived on the top of Sigiriya rock.
Banyan tree.
This is the halfway point up the rock called the Lions Paw. It was over 1000 steps to this point. Marlene and I decide this is far enough. You can see the final steps snaking up the rock and the lineup of people going up. Looks like climbing to Mt. Everest,
We then snake our way around the rock to view murals that were painted on the side. Don’t look down…Yikes!
As we weren’t allowed to photograph the murals I have just used a picture from a book to show what we saw.
Cobra rock.
We then head to the Royal Cave Temple. It houses five cave temples. More stairs!
The Golden Buddha Statue (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
We then head to Kandy where we overnight.
