Bev’s Retirement - Mexico

It’s November 23, 2021 and I meet Bev at Wyndham Days Inn out by the airport.  We are leaving for Cancun tomorrow.  After we meet we go for dinner at a restaurant that must be the best kept secret in Richmond.  The employee at the hotel recommended a small restaurant only a block away called the Story Cafe.  It’s a renovated warehouse that became a restaurant fulfilling someone’s dream in 2019.  Since COVID was causing most restaurants to go under this restaurant was able to employ some of the best chefs because they weren’t working in the larger restaurants.  The menu is varied and very creative.  Prices are reasonable and the food so good.  The staff are great too and share their passion for food and memorabilia which the restaurant is full of. They have a large patio and I think you will require a reservation as this place becomes well known.

Crème brûlée

White chocolate cheesecake.

We then head back to the hotel as it’s up early to catch our flight.

At the airport we board our flight on time but then as the pilot starts to taxi out we get an announcement that there’s been an impact to the windshield and it’s cracked!  We have to go back, get off the plane, the luggage is unloaded and then they have to bring in another plane.  It takes about 3 hours for this to happen so we are delayed in leaving.  8:45 am is now 11:45 am and we are finally off.  WestJet handled all this very well and we were all given a $15 voucher which we spent on snacks for the flight.  Glad the windshield cracked before we were airborne!

Finally on the fast ferry heading to Isla Mujeres.  We just made the last one at 11 pm as our driver wasn’t at the airport as planned.  Took a few phone calls but finally Laura showed and it was a race to the ferry.  It’s been a very long day!
