It’s misty and wet. Lots of waterfalls. Perfect conditions for tea. The tea is all hand picked by women. Very hard work on these steep slippery slopes.
Quite a variety.
This is the packing room. We enjoy a tour of the facilities and then a soothing cup of tea. Then we’re on our way again.
This is the 112 year old post office in Nuwara Eliya on our way to our hotel in the mountains.
Our accommodations have been lovely.
It’s amazing what you see on the side of the road. These are homeless horses. I wouldn’t say they are wild horses as they are domesticated and were originally brought over by the British however no one wants them now as their care is too expensive. We have also seen elephants just standing on the side of the road in one National Park that we were driving by. It was at night and altogether there were three of them within a mile or so. Gave me quite a start to see a huge elephant just standing there. Would hate to collide with one!
In the morning we’re up early to catch the train to Ella Village.
All aboard!
The scenery is beautiful. We’re lucky the sun is with us today. Lots of tea plantations.
When we stop they sell some food and drinks to the people on the train.
This is the end of our train trip. Our guide meets us here and takes us to the nine arch bridge. We go by car and then Tuk Tuk as the road in is not great.
Just in time to see the train that we were previously on cross the bridge.
The bridge is quite an architectural feat as there isn’t any steel in its construction.
I thought I would try driving us back! (Not really). I think one of these would be handy in White Rock..
We head back to Ella for lunch. Our guide takes us to a Japanese restaurant where the food was really good.
So lush and green.
This fellow is cooking corn for sale at the side of the road. The people are so poor they do anything to make a few rupees.
