Sea Life Aquarium

We are leaving Sydney this afternoon so decide to see the aquarium before we go.

You’re surrounded by water as sharks and mani rays swim over top.

Trip to Coogee

We hop the bus to Coogee Beach.  It’s been a bit difficult getting around in a few locations as they have closed a few train stations due to the Prime Minister of Israel being in town for a visit.  Luckily all will be back to normal by Monday when we catch the train back to the airport.

It’s overcast today but still warm.  Makes it more comfortable for walking around.

There are so many beautiful, sandy beaches.

The Opera House

Today we head to the Opera House.  We have tickets for “Behind the Scenes” which allowed us to go in the theatre and see how the productions are done. This only happens one day a year and we were so lucky to have stumbled upon this deal.  It was free!   From lighting and sound to costumes and props we’ll hear about it all.

We were in the Joan Sutherland Theatre.  A large part of the Opera House is closed for renovations.

The stage is set for the performance of Carmen which we would have loved to see however a ticket would have cost us $210 and it wasn’t in the budget.

There was someone from the orchestra (far left), next to her a tenor, the stage manager and lastly on the right the conductor.  They all explained their rolls and how they all work together.

Then while the conductor played the piano, the tenor and the audience sang showing how the acoustics of the theatre worked.

There was an example of stage makeup.

Trying on costumes..

Quite the head pieces.
This beautiful period costume was gorgeous and it weighed quite a bit.

We then looked at props and that was it.  Now we’re off to Coogee!

Exploring Sydney

Off walking in the morning and we’re heading to Hyde Park.  There is an amazing War Memorial there.  Really well done.

We arrived just before 11 am and there was a brief morning prayer and minute of silence in honour of the fallen soldiers.

We then head into Hyde Park and discover Captain Cook.

The trees are amazing.  Gorgeous trees all over Sydney.

St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Then off to the Art Museum...didn’t spend too much time there...just got a quick look.

These are totems in the Aboriginal area of the art museum

Off to the botanical gardens.

The fernery... amazing ferns!

We visited the display of carnivorous plants.

Another “killer”

Back to pretty things...

Doesn’t this tree look like it could come alive?  Something out of Alice in Wonderland?
