PEI day 2

Today we have decided to walk around Charlottetown prior to leaving for points further afield.

Beautiful church.

A local tour guide dressed in period costume.

Beautiful rolling hills.  Everything is so green.

We arrive at an Arcadian facility to experience their music and try some typical dishes.

Husband and wife get ready to serve our lunch.

This was so tasty especially with a dollop of molasses!

Entertainment was fiddle and keyboard with a lot of toe tapping.  These ladies perform all over the world!

We then visit Ann of Green Gable.  This was the house that the author of Ann of Green Gable, Lucy Montgomery, based her story on.  It was the home of her cousin that she would visit quite often.

The woods around the home are quite peaceful and beautiful.

Then we head to Cavendish.

Off to Prince Edward Island PEI

Today we are headed to Prince Edward Island aka PEI

The Mi’kMaw are the indigenous people of Nova Scotia.

A strange thing we noticed in Charlottetown is that the red traffic lights are square shaped, the orange lights are diamond shaped and the green lights are round in shape.  This is so that someone who is color blind can differentiate between the lights!  Who would have thought?

Tonight we go for lobster dinner.

Bibs on and we dig in!

Halifax Day 3

Today we head out for Peggy’s Cove. So lucky the weather is good.

Halifax Day 2

It’s Sunday.  Second day in Halifax. We’re lucky with the weather. No rain but very windy today. 

We’re headed to the Citadel which is very close to us.  Here is the clock tower.  The clock tower also served as the home for the clock caretaker’s family.

British troops lived here in 1869.  This was actually the fourth Citadel. The first was as early as 1749.

The uniform they wear is of the Highlanders and the tartan is the Mackenzie tartan who acts as their sponsor.



Construction of the more permanent Citadel began in 1828 and continued until 1856.  It now belongs to Parks Canada and is run by the HCS or The Halifax Citadel Society.  



This Sargent was in charge of ammunition and guns.  He was very good with a great sense of humour.



We were present for the 12 o’clock cannon being sounded.  I felt the earth move!



After leaving the Citadel we walk down to the harbour and catch the ferry over to Georges Island 



You can see George’s Island easily from the harbour.







There is a maze of tunnels at George’s Island where they store explosives and are also able to move artillery around to position it where needed.  





George’s Island was used as an internment camp for the Acadians during eight years of deportation after the British took over between 1755 and 1764.  The Fort was named Fort Charlotte.

Prince of Wales Tower.  It’s been a long day with lots of walking.  We decide to call an Uber to take us back to the hotel.  Meeting our tour group tonight.
